Singer Island artist Rez's career could be subtitled "More Pieces
About Violence and Food," considering that he's had exhibition series
with the sweet 'n' sour titles Chocolate and Roses and Guns and
Roses. Food is a subject at least passively encountered by every
artist, but depicting violence in art requires sensitivity. Rez grew up
in Persia during the Shah's regime, so he's also seen this aspect of his art
all-too-closely. While some of his paintings and sculptures show violence
and its aftermath, some actually employ it Rez has had marksmen
shoot holes in some of his pieces for extra effect.
Not exactly standard fare for impressing
art critics, yet Rez has been glowingly reviewed in publications from The
Miami Herald to the Tampa
Tribune.
He's also been featured on the national
television program Good Morning, America, proving that (at
least in this case) a little violence doesn't hurt.
