BRANDON
- "Chocolates and Flowers" featuring paintings by Rez is
the January exhibit at Center Place. The artist early on
wanted to pursue his creativity despite family and societal demands that
he adopt a "more honorable profession," said a spokeswoman for
Center Place.
His parents sent
him to the United States to study engineering, he later became an American
citizen and began his artistic career, eventually operating a multimillion
dollar graphic arts and communication company in Washington, D.C. In 1985,
he decided to "dedicate himself to the canvases," according to
the spokeswoman.
The exhibit
includes the contemporary artist's acrylics of chocolate candy bars, Oreo
cookies, fudge laced cherry cake and M&M candies as well as floral
paintings created after a visit to Holland.
A reception for
the artist will be hosted by the Brandon League of Fine Arts from 5:30
p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today. The reception is free and open to the public.
